About James

I have been engaged in the practice of law on the North Shore of Boston for thirty-three years at first in a small partnership and for the past nine years as a solo practitioner.

I have a general civil practice involving mostly litigation. I have litigated on a variety of subject matters pertaining to real estate ownership, partnership disputes, enforcement of contracts and leases, collections of unpaid claims, personal injury, insurance, consumer protection, landlord/tenant, lemon law.

Having worked construction during my school years, I prepare contracts and handle construction claims and litigation for general contractors, subcontractors and homeowners.

I am happy to sit at my desk all day and read and write and eventually take it all to court.

I have learned that it is best to set aside the underlying issues of disputes so that claims are settled on the acceptable basis available because litigation outcomes are not very predictable.

I like to handle appeals of civil cases.

I also advise businesses in their operations pertaining to their contract, insurance, formality of operation, leases and relations with business partners.

I prepare wills and trusts and probate estates sometimes involving modifications to real estate for sale to settle the estate.

I have served on a variety of civic organizations and currently serve on the following:

  • Trustee of the J. B. Thomas Hospital, the Peabody Institute Library
  • The International Special Events Society, a school based day care program
  • Secretary – Topsfield Education Foundation (1998 to present)
  • Board Member – The Topsfield Planning Board
  • A variety of charitable organizations to incorporate and obtain tax exempt status.
